EMPLOYEE SPOTLIGHT – Travis Boggs

As we step into August, we're shining the spotlight on a true Mills James veteran—Travis Boggs. With nearly 19 years of dedication under his belt, Travis has journeyed from the bustling world of cafes and record stores to mastering the art of event production. His path to Mills James was paved with hands-on experience in the stagehand's union, where a pivotal moment at the Greater Columbus Convention Center ignited his passion for the industry. But if you ask him his favorite part of the job? It's the team he gets to work with every day. Looking ahead, he’s excited to see Mills James continue to grow and innovate, taking on even bigger challenges with cutting-edge technology.

Hubspot_TravisBoggs_August2024 (1)How long have you been at Mills James?

I’m coming up on 19 years at Mills James in November.

What did your life look like before MJ?

Before MJ, I worked mostly in cafes as a barista and record stores.

What led you to a career in this industry?

Whenever I didn’t have a full-time job, I would work for the stagehand's union. I was on an event at the Greater Columbus Convention Center for an AV company out of Austin and realized that this was an actual career I enjoyed and could pursue.

What is a project that you have worked on that sticks out to you?

There have been many, but to narrow it down I would say the NHL All Star Game Party, Lottery at the Ohio State Fair, and the “But For...” Campaign Close with THE Ohio State University.

What is your favorite part of being on the Events team?

The answer is in the question, “team”. The people I work with and our current team in MJx are easily my favorite part. The clients, the challenges, and the travel are great, but the people I get to experience it all with are the best part.

Tell us about a professional success story that you’re proud of.

The previously mentioned NHL All Star Game is a pretty good memory for me. 128 motors in Hall C & D of the Greater Columbus Convention Center to section it off to create a German Village Oktoberfest, Dublin IrishFest, Italian Festival, Gallery Hop, and a Halloween High Ball Mainstage was such a huge effort on everyone’s part, and it all came together impressively. The NHL client was happy and said the guests stuck around at the party longer than any other year they have done it.

Describe an interesting hobby or pastime that you have.

I DJ for a goth night twice a month in local clubs in the Old North area of Columbus and have been DJing for 23 years. It’s a bit of a niche genre, but we have the biggest night for it in the state.

What are you looking forward to in your future?

Professionally, I am looking forward to watching Mills James and the MJx team grow and do even bigger events with utilization of newer, more impressive technologies. Personally, I am looking forward to traveling more.
